Graham Black

BIO

Graham Black moved to Cornwall after a long career as an art director in London to rekindle his love of printmaking.

His specialism is silkscreen printing focussing on the myriad textural complexities, forms and shapes of the ancient granite rocks and cliffs that dominate Land’s End where he lives.

Graham exquisitely explores the possibilities of multiple overlays and colours to give depth and resonance to a process more known for creating flat imagery.

He achieves this by hand painting with ink directly onto the screen in combination with hand cut stencils that result in a more ‘hand-crafted’ aesthetic. The process is a labour intensive one, often involving up to 18 individual layers of ink.

Graham is a member of Cornwall Crafts Association at Trelissick Gallery and a Penwith Society of Artists Associate exhibiting at Penwith Gallery, St Ives.
