the exhibition
Venue: The Old Coastguard, Mousehole
Dates: 1 April to 11 June 2023
Penny Rumble is a painter of seas; calm, rough and everything in between.
Her exhibition of new paintings has been inspired by the poem ‘Sea Fever’ written by John Masefield in 1902 and her own love of sea swimming. Read the full poem.
‘I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied.'
(Extract from John Masefield’s Sea Fever)
After long walks along the seashore and high up on clifftops, it's back to the Cornwall studio. It's here that Penny begins to paint the sea in all its guises, striving to portray an emotional relationship with her compositions.
